Ice Harvest Festival: Horse drawn sleigh rides & Ice fishing

The Ice Harvest at Hanford Mills Museum offers a captivating glimpse into historical ice harvesting practices, providing visitors with a hands-on experience of an essential winter activity from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Taking place in the charming setting of Hanford Mills in East Meredith, New York. Participants get to step back in time and learn how ice was collected, stored, and transported before the advent of modern refrigeration.

Festival also includes ice carving, ice fishing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, snowman village, hot soup buffet, food trucks, blacksmithing and cooking demonstrations, and exhibits by local businesses and farmers.

The sell meat, dairy (including the local dairy farm, Clarks), vegetables, breads, and other staples to help you prepare dinner back at the cabin.

Stony Creek Farmstead

While this is not actually located in Franklin, it’s located in the adjacent town of Walton, NY and just 5 minutes from The Roost. Stony Creek Farm has an on farm store where you can pick up beef, pork, chicken, lamb, eggs & more. Visit Stony Creek Farmstead website to place an order. Pick up or have it delivered! Prepare your meal in our fully stocked kitchen with large workstation sink and Blackstone Griddle.

Saturday nights, May-October, Stony Creek Farmstead lights up their wood-fired brick oven and invite neighbors, friends, and guests to make pizzas with local ingredients, and sit around the campfire. Call, text, or email to let them know ahead of time that you’ll be coming. Get the details here.

North Star Blueberry Farm

Northstar Blueberries are grown on seventy-four acres overlooking the village of Franklin, New York. They are open for blueberry picking mid-July through mid-late August. They supply buckets for picking and freezer bags so that you can take your berries home.
